The Changing Cities Lab is an International Summer School for Urban Planning and Design in Lübeck that seeks to explore the various current dynamics and challenges affecting our cities today. The focus in 2025 is on the question of what strategic interventions and concepts for the transformation of various urban spaces of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Lübeck could look like in the context of climate-adapted transformation.

Our Summer School brings together students from all over the world to explore how sustainability and artificial intelligence can drive positive change. Over twelve days, you will take part in hands-on, interdisciplinary courses, learn from experienced lecturers and guest speakers, and benefit from strong connections to local industry partners. The summer school “Engineering Sustainability” offers the opportunity to get to know more about sustainability from various aspects. In addition to interdisciplinary courses in English, an extensive cultural program and interesting company visits are offered for national and international students.

From 21 to 25 September 2026, an international summer school for students of urban planning and related fields will be held in Lille. The summer school will focus on the analysis and diagnosis of selected sites in the city of Lille. These areas currently experience conflicts related to the transportation system and the use of public space. The proposals should aim to mitigate existing conflicts and generate successful, inclusive urban spaces.
Climate adaptation will constitute a major component of the workshop. Projects must align with Lille’s ecological transition strategy and address the city’s principal environmental challenges, such as urban heat islands and heavy rainfall. Historical and heritage dimensions, as well as future mobility plans, must also be carefully considered. Lille’s population is socially and economically diverse and includes residents, students, and tourists. The proposed projects must respond to the needs of these different user groups and contribute to the development of a hospitable and inclusive city
The Summer School is a joint initiative of the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, JUNIA, the Graduate School of Science and Engineering in Lille, TH Lübeck, University of Applied Sciences, Gdańsk University of Technology and the Cairo University.

The TH Lübeck, University of Applied Sciences is organizing the Summer School 2024 for CDAI students in Hangzhou, China, in the subjects of industrial engineering with a focus on intelligent production technology (WIP) and civil engineering (BIW). The aim of the Summer School is to improve language skills through an intensive German course. In addition, the students get to know the culture and way of life as well as the people in Germany. Company visits and an extensive cultural program complement the program.
